Trust

Children can be the perfect example of self-confidence and complete trust. Last year, my family had a reunion up at the Heber Valley Girls' Camp. While there, we participated in one of the challenge courses. The idea of our course was to climb up a pole...about 20 or 25 feet. Next, you walked across another pole...about 15 to 20 feet long...holding onto nothing for balance. Then, after you completed the terrifying part, you got to go on a zip line. Everyone that was able participated, including my four-year-old niece. Kaylee was amazing to watch. Her only problem with the whole thing was that she couldn't reach all the steps on the climb up. So, the missionary that was holding the rope would pull her up until she could grab onto the next step and pull herself up. Then, she walked right across the pole with no fear at all.
Kaylee was the perfect example of confidence. She new she could do it and just went for it. She was also a great example of trust. She had perfect trust in the missionaries that helped her. As she was being pulled up to the next step, she had no fear of being dropped. She had complete trust in the rope that she was attached to as she walked across the pole that was some 20 feet in the air. And when she was done, all she wanted was to do it again.

I have so much to learn from my little niece. I can learn to be more confident and trust myself more. I can also learn to have more trust in those supports I have around me. Children are amazing, and there is so much I learn from a young child. That's why I love them so much.

One year...

One year ago today I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Child Development from BYU-Idaho. It was a typical windy Rexburg day, and I was so anxious to be done.

It's strange to think it's already been a year. So far, post graduation life has been great. I can't wait to see how it continues to turn out.

Patience

I looked up some quotes to see if I could convince myself that patience was a good thing. In the process, I found...

~All good things come to he who waits.
~The secret of patience is doing something else in the meanwhile.
~Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.
~Patience is not passive; on the contrary, it is active; it is concentrated strength.

So, yeah. Those helped. But of course, in the process, I enjoyed coming across some that discuss patience with somewhat of a sarcastic tone...

~How can a society that exists on instant mashed potatoes, packaged cake mixes, frozen dinners, and instant cameras teach patience to its young?
~Patience is something you admire in the driver behind you and scorn in the one ahead.
~Patience: A minor form of despair disguised as a virtue.

April Fools!

Remember how I went to the park for lunch at work on Monday? Yeah, it looked like spring was really coming, but today I woke up to snow. I would say thank you to Mother Nature for the April Fools Joke, but I'm not exactly feeling grateful. I'm sick of the snow!!!!

Favorite Things

I have favorite things and things I get really interested in. When I find something new, I like to learn all I can about the new interest and maybe it appears as an obsession, but I don't really care. I like my favorite things. I have done it with crocheting, cross-stitching, sewing, and other projects. I have definitely found a favorite thing in traveling, even though I haven't been able to do much.

My new favorite thing is the idea of a little potted garden on the patio of my apartment. I have time and a random interest in it, so I want to make myself a garden.
I find great interest in certain TV shows. I watched the entire series of Gilmore Girls in a matter of weeks a few years ago. I have certain shows that I definitely watch every episode of...once I get really into it. The TV show of great interest right now is Dancing With the Stars.

Mostly because of this couple...Evan and Anna. The others will be fun too and I'll get other favorites, but these two will mostly likely remain my favorite.

And I most definitely have my favorite movies. I have a lot of favorites, but if someone were to ask me to pick one movie to be my absolute favorite...if I could only own one movie (or series)...if I had to narrow it down to one...it would be Anne of Green Gables. I love all three movies. I enjoy the story of the third movie (even though it doesn't follow the books)...most of my favorite scenes come out of the second movie...but my favorite movie as a whole is the first.

I love the series because I love watching the relationship between Anne and Gilbert evolve...they make love look so easy!

However, even with my all-time favorite being Anne of Green Gables, there are times when other movies take precedence. One series that can easily do this is Harry Potter!!!
These movies are amazing, and J.K. Rowling is brilliant. Plus, these kids have been fun to watch grow up. They were so cute in the first movie. :)

The seventh movie comes out on November 19, 2010...that is 7 months and 27 days (yes, I do have a countdown). I'm so excited!

I can't help but be excited about my favorite things!!!

St. Patrick's Day!

I don't like dressing up on Halloween, but give me a day to wear a specific color, and I'm all for it. It probably started when my mom would make green food on St. Patrick's Day when I was growing up. We would have green pancakes, green spaghetti, green bread...she went all out, and I loved it. Whether it was that or not, I don't know, but I love finding cute outfits with green for St. Patrick's Day.

Today, I completely disappointed myself when I got to work and had forgotten the day. I was lucky enough to wear a little bit of green, but definitely not what I like. So, what did I do when I got home? I fixed my problem, and put on what would have been my green outfit. It's so much better. :)

At work, we have been learning about St. Patrick's Day and where it came from. Apparently St. Patrick was some Catholic Bishop who was a missionary to Ireland. While in Ireland, it is said that he banished snakes from the island. Of course, that probably means that there were never any snakes there, but still...that is one more reason for me to love St. Patrick and want to celebrate this wonderful green day. Plus, it give me a great new love for Ireland. I should go there someday.
