That's what I'm talking about!! After no medals yesterday, we managed 6 today...3 of which were GOLD! That is why I love the Olympics!!!

Oh Canada!

I decided that I can be a fan of more than just the USA. Watching the Men's and Women's Moguls Saturday and Sunday evenings is how I discovered this. On Saturday when the women competed and we were down to the final racers, I came to the conclusion that Canada could win the Gold Medal and if they did, I was okay with that...then USA won and that was wonderful.

Last night watching the Men's competition, I was really excited when Alexandre Bilodeau was able to secure the Gold Medal, making him the first Gold Medalist for Canada in a home Olympics. And that's when I decided that I can be a fan of Canada. Besides...listening to his story about him and his brother just gives me way more respect for him. I love stories like that!

So, I'll cheer for Canada...unless it's a close battle between Canada and the USA...then it's USA all the way!

And...Good job Seth Wescott on getting the Gold in Snowboard Cross. However, next time, make it a little less stressful please. That was a little too close for comfort.

News

I have found something interesting that happens when I watch the Olympics. Because I have the TV on almost constantly, I tend to watch the news more. I guess that's a good thing because I know more of what is going on, but it only lasts for a short time. As much as I say that I'll keep up on news once the Olympics are over, it won't happen. I know myself too well.

So, while it lasts, thank you NBC for keeping me updated on what is going on in the world. Also, I love your chime tones because they remind of my friends from bell choir. Leave it to boys to figure out the tones so they can play them on the bells. So, thanks for that too. :)

Olympics!!!

Some of the best times in my life occur every couple of years...The Olympics!!! I don't know exactly why I love it so much, but I really do. I remember 14 years ago watching the women's gymnastics team take the gold in Atlanta, and I know that I have always enjoyed them. But, eight years ago when they were in Salt Lake City, I absolutely loved it and the Olympic Spirit in me woke up. There's something so fun about the whole thing. I just get this random happy feeling around the time of the Olympics.

During the Summer Olympics, I love watching the Gymnastics... Men's and Women's...

(Sidenote...one day, I'm going to know an Olympic Gymnast...

I know him already, and one day he'll be famous)

I love watching Swimming...especially when I get to see someone break the record for the most gold medals in a single Olympics...

Track is fun when it's not the insanely long-distance races. And I love watching someone break two world records and make it look simple (records in track aren't broken very often)...

And I have a random love for Beach Volleyball...more men's than women's cause the women forget how to dress themselves...

And now it's time for the Winter Olympics. For the next two weeks, it's pretty much guaranteed that I will be keeping up on a lot of the sports. Particuarly...Figure Skating...

I'll also watch the Skiing...Downhill, not so much Cross-Country...

Ski Jumping is kind of interesting...I don't really get it much, but I like watching them fly through the air in some random, awkward-looking position...

And the beloved new Olympic sport of Snowboarding...both Halfpipe and Snowboard Cross...

I really enjoy a lot of the racing sports, and Speed Skating is one of my favorites for sure...

And how do you not love watching Bobsledding...

So, basically, I love the Olympics...there is really no other way to put it. I look forward to the next two weeks, and all the time I can spend watching the Olympics!!

Today's favorite scripture is: 1 Nephi 11:17. "I know that he loveth his children; nevertheless, I do not know the meaning of all things." Or, you can switch it around and it would say, "I do not know the meaning of all things; nevertheless, I know that God loveth his children."

So, in response to last night... I don't get it all. I won't ever understand why some things happen. But, even when things aren't logical, even when they don't make sense, one thing will forever make sense in my mind, and it's the only thing that really, truly matters. I know that God loves His children. I know that He loves me. And that's all I need to know right now.

Logic

My mind thinks very logically...most of the time. And when it's not thinking logically, it's usually on the opposite end of the spectrum. I don't like that I'm that way some of the time, but changing it is not an easy process.

But, back to the logic thing. When things happen, I like to have a reason for it. Take Calculus, for example. Why is y=2x the derivative of y=x^2 (x-squared)? Because at any given point on the curve y=x^2, you can find the slope of that specific point by putting the x-value into the equation of y=2x. And there you have the slope of the curve at that point. Logic...I love it. If there's a reason for the why, I'm a happy girl. But when there's no reason, I can't handle it. Unfortunately, the things that matter most...the real life things...usually are not logical. When things don't make sense, it affects me emotionally. I try to make sense of things that I shouldn't and it rarely turns out well.

So, here's my new goal: Try to accept things as they come. If they make sense, great! If not, get over it and move on. We'll see how it goes.
